By the time we reached Yokosuka, the Navy had invaded the port. Sailors were everywhere, shopping and exploring the orient. We felt like millionaires as we browsed the streets with our pockets stuffed with Yen (rate of exchange at the time was 360 Yen per $1.00). I wondered if the food in Yokosuka could ever compare with the chicken fried rice had discovered in Sasebo? It was undoubtedly the best rice I had ever tasted anywhere. I hit the streets with 50,000 Yen, determined to find out. We were glad to be free men and glad that the war was finally over.
