Well, folks, I'm afraid it's time to say Goodbye Again. I arrived at Zephyr Cove just as the sun sank over Lake Tahoe. It was a wonderful journey filled with some great High Country Treasures. If you are going, plan the trip well, carry lots of water, a hat and pack some food. It is a long haul between Bishop and Vegas and Vegas and Tonopah with few services. The best map I found was the Death Valley and Southern Nevada Map (available from AAA). This covers this route from Bishop to Vegas and back to Goldfield. You will need a good Nevada map (that shows the border towns in California) to cover the journey from Tonopah to Lee Vining. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is helpful to reach Bodie and may be necessary to reach Patriarch Grove in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest (this is about 13 miles up a dirt road, north of Shulman Grove). Stock up on film and don't forget the camera.
